BERNINA Best of Show visits Alice Springs »
Darwin Patchworkers and Quilters Inc hosted the Territory Quilts 2011 exhibition at the Darwin Performing Arts Centre this year. BERNINA were happy to send our Best of Show quilts for their exhibition. They had over 500 people view the display. We're told the quilters up there are so excited and were amazed at how much could be done to decorate a quilt. They have asked their committee for workshops on specialty affects and were truly inspired.

Community Quilts & The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc.
Recently Greg Alexander and Kerrie Hay were invited to visit Drummond House at Manly to see some children receive their quilts and have a look around the centre. It was amazing to see how much work is done by the NSW Quilting groups that put these wonderful quilts together from donated fabrics. The children chose their own quilt and then they clung onto them as if they have never received anything more beautiful in their lives before. It was truely heart warming to see and one of those moments to cherish. For more information about the Community Quilts program Click here >>

The “Textile Tattoo” Challenge »
This was a challenge set for the wonderful group of creative people Bernina call “Bernina Friends”. They are a group of very talented artists that love what they do, using a Bernina machine as their tool of trade. They range from Quilters to Textile artist and anything in between.
The challenge had no boundaries other than its size, it had to be 50cm x 35cm so that it could be photographed and turned into a skin. A skin is a vinyl foil that can be applied directly onto the face of the machine just like your phone or computer. In this case it is the new Bernina 215 sewing machine.
Due to the amazing response, our judges are having a hard time picking a winner. They have made a decision regarding the top twelve which will now be turned into skins and re judged when the skins have been applied to the machines and displayed at the Textile Art Festival in Brisbane in June.
Click here to see our finalists and watch this space for the announcement of the winner.

Australasian Quilt Convention - AQC »
The Australasian Quilt Convention has become the premiere quilt event in the southern hemisphere since it’s inception 6 years ago it has now become a genuine rival to other large events around the world. BERNINA Australia has been a major sponsor of this event from the beginning and we intend to continue to support this event for many years to come. We do this as a way of giving back something to the many quilters and the respective guilds associated in this part of the industry. We encourage anyone interested in making their way to next years event in Melbourne as we know you will have a wonderful time shared with like minded people all of who have a passion for quilting.
Textile Art Festival »
The Textile Art Festival commenced in 2009 and proved to be something a lot of textile artists and also the general public found to be a wonderful concept in this area of the sewing world. In June 2010 we participated once again in the second festival and provided sponsorship for a challenge where artists created textile art wear creations for judging and to be showcased at the event. The response was exceptional as was the quality of the garments entered. At BERNINA we believe that this inspiring and wonderfully creative form of sewing should be shown to a wider variety of people to inspire them to get creative.
BERNINA has a commitment to continuing to support such initiatives for many years to come.
Apex Teenage Fashion Awards »
At BERNINA we believe the future of our industry and the future of sewing in general is reliant upon younger generations being inspired to create and learn. For this reason we sponsor many youth programs one such being the Apex Teenage Fashion awards. We believe by providing worthwhile donations it entices the younger people to participate in such competitions and hopefully continue throughout their lives and pass on this to generations into the future.
